Temat postu: rozmowy po angielsku
hi there!

if there is a topic only in german we can create another one but in english.. :]

gosh! i haven`t speak english so long that probably i will have a big problem with that :)
i used to communicate in english with several guys on NeedForSpeed board - very old story :D

imagine that:
international NeedForSpeed board + guys from all over the world + software in english + learning how to create a mesh using tutorials in english = LOL :wstyd: :rotfl:
after more that one year i could describe the process of creating a car model to a guy from Asia or America but i had no idea how to explain that in polish when my friend asked me :wstyd:

it`s funny, isn`t it? :]

***
ok, that was a way to create stupid thread about nothing.. but who cares? :chytry:

Nobody's perfect ;)

Joke ;)

It's normal for me. I've such weird situations almost every day ;) If I can't say sth in Polish, there's high probability I could explain it in English ;) Is my native vocabulary poor? I don't think so :P

BTW - NFS rulez :padam:

trunks - Pon Wrz 19, 2005 22:23

Wow, nice topic, now we can invite some foreigners here :oczami:
Frycek - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 06:45

Hello :rotfl:
Good Morning :) :hyhy:

Admike - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 06:50

Welcome Posse!!! :D

to be honest I've expected that someone creates such a topic after Lexi's "talks in German" :D

what's the best way not to forget any foreign language? practicing... so I hope all of you will help me with it... I have some contact in English but not as much as in German, but form time to time it happens that I have to speak English and then.. yes... I forget the simplest words... and must admit it makes me upset...

that'd be all for now...

stay tuned! ;)

:cwaniak:
my story was about the High Stakes - it was very easy to modify standard cars available in this game or create new ones.
gosh! i have spent much time on it ;) creating and testing :]
but the hardest thing was to create good handling using all these numbers (weight, torque, transmission, rpm ) in text-editor :luka:
my friend has modified a car with NOS (lol.. this game doesn`t have options like this so the author had to use reverse gear.. when you switch to R car accelerates instead of moving backwards) and when he was turning NOS on it looked like he had rocket engine or something :rotfl: unbelievable acceleration... BUT!.. :rotfl: he had to slow down on turns.. and it was the chance to win using my car.. it was Opel Astra 2, full of "plastic-fantastic" spoilers.. my power was hidden ;) acceleration? top speed? no.. all these parameters sucked when you compare it to my friend`s car performance :kwasny:
yeah.. i know it`s obvious :P perfect handling! :cwaniak:
he could drive 400kmph but must slow down to about 60 when turning and i could drive about 290kmph but constantly..
which option was better? of course it depends on the track.. on typical race track i had no chance because of low number of turns which means he didn`t have to slow down enough to beat him..
but on tracks with many turns his NOS was useless..
so our favorite tracks was those between these 2 extremities - where both of us could win and it depended (?) on skills and not only car performance

now you know the history for little children so you can go sleep :]

end of story ;)

bocianu - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 08:53

beeing honest, I don't think that writing short posts
might help You to improve Your english.
Such excericises can extend or refresh your vocabulary,
but only when you poke in your dictionary for fresh meat (I mean words).

maybe we can introduce a kind of "word game" ?

4xmpl, i ask for translation of 3 words (or phrases) from pl -> en
of course dictionaries are allowed:
translate 4 me:

serwatka
filc
bimber

Demmo - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 09:27

serwatka-whey
filc-felt
bimber-illegally distilled liquor, bootleg vodka ;)

Demmo - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 09:30

that was easy ;)

try this:
tatarak
kabestan
gryf
niezapominajka ;)
wielowątkowy

uhmm.. damn! still too easy.. :zdegustowany:

Demmo - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 09:30

wylansowany? :]
bocianu - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 09:47

tatarak - sweet flag or calamus
kabestan - capstan
gryf - mytholgical: griffon, part of a guitar: neck
niezapominajka - forget-me-not
wielowątkowy - multi thread
wylansowany - self promoted

so, my challenging words are:
malkontent
prezbiterium
czapka niewidka
huśtawka nastrojów

Szamanka - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 10:36

a mowili mi zebym sie jezykow uczyla :mur:

teraz to dla mnie tylko nie znane literki :rozpacz:

Demmo - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 13:35

letters in polish are the same ;) words can be unknown ;)

bocianu, great challenge :] single words are pretty easy to look up in a dictionary - more complicated 'words' that in polish are described by more than one word are hard to translate :)

bocianu - Wto Wrz 20, 2005 14:06

Demmo napisał/a:

harder but possible.
i'm waiting 4 your answers :)

non-visible hat? :rotfl: maybe invisible? ;) or non-seeable? :rotfl: :zawstydzony:
bocianu - Czw Wrz 22, 2005 12:24

i'd say "hat of invisibility"...
Demmo - Czw Wrz 22, 2005 12:31

oh.. so single word in english with that meaning doesn`t exist? i thought you know a word in english and translated it into polish in free translation (wolne tłumaczenie :luka: :rotfl: )

without small garden - bez ogródek :rotfl: :rotfl: :zawstydzony:

am i right? ;) you speak german very well so you should know :]
Admike - Pon Wrz 26, 2005 10:05

of course you're right :ok:

you know, because I speak German and English it happens, that while speaking English I say from time to time a German word... :zawstydzony:

Demmo - Pon Wrz 26, 2005 13:58

i have the same but with german language.. `cause i speak english better than german (better doesn`t mean good or very good :P everything can be better than 'nothing' or something almost similar ;) ) when i try to speak or write anything in german i think (for example) "BÓG" -> in english it would be "GOD" but in german? uhmm.. oh.. -> "GOTT" ;)
when i try to translate anything i know the word in english instantly but in german it takes time... maybe if i practise a little bit more it would change but the problem is that i don`t need to use this language.
if i have to choose any language and there is no polish i choose english - i have never seen a situation when there was no english option.. sometimes i even prefer english, for example in programmes because polish tutorials are usually much worse than english ones and when i try to learn anything i don`t want to wonder how do they translated the names of options into polish ;)

glewitz - Pon Wrz 26, 2005 21:13

Oh my God!!!
Demmo - Pon Wrz 26, 2005 21:41

maybe if it`s correct now you will be so nice to tell us what do you mean? :D is it a try to join the conversation or what? :)
seb1 - Pią Lis 18, 2005 03:21

Hello all,
How are you?
geez it's been like 17yrs I'm not in Poland. Thanx God I found this forum, where finaly I might find someone that knows me or vice versa.
I'm living now in Montreal, Canada, so if you want we can chat in English( i guess that's the place for it) or French, or even German, I personally don't care.
I left Gliwice in 1989, and spend 4 years in West-Berlin, then finally immigrated to Canada.

I'm open to any conversation, just let me know.

cu later

Tobi - Pią Lis 18, 2005 20:10

I'm curious - do you, after those years, remember anything in Polish? :) How is it? Do you talk in Polish sometimes? Do you know any Polish people there in Canada?
seb1 - Sob Lis 19, 2005 23:35

tobi,
of co i remember polish. Po polsku porozmawiac mozemy!
But guess thid thread is made for english speaking so we have no choice but obey the rules.

Yes i have some polish friends here in Canada, but Polish ppl outside Poland, are worst .Always trying to get the most of u. "kto dolki kopie, ten awansuje"
That's the reality.

Well even tho i got some polish friends here, i tend to stick wth others.Montreal is multi-cultural city, it's French city in the middle of Americanized country. My wife is chinese, so next year we are planning to visit Gliwice. it will be her 1st visit to Poland, and I guess mine too, after such long time.

I still remember Gliwice as it was b4 i left. Sometimes in my dreams i'm walking through the city as I did b4. I don't know if that's normal but i guess something is telling me to go back. we will see.
BTw can someone tell me how much is to rent a car now?
Don't worry i drive stick. I got VW!
i'm looking into something economical.
Herein Canada, if you don't have enough torque, u dead!
it's ajungle rulez, the stronger u are , the longer you will drive.
we got 2 kinds of bad drivers:
1. slow drivers: taxi, asians(not all), eldery ppl
2. too fast: cops! and morons who think having Honda civic with big exaust will make him a porshe!
Well i need to rent something that will put me between.
any input is approciated.

ciao
PS: i will send some pic from Canadaif you want.

Tobi - Nie Lis 20, 2005 17:24

The price for renting a car is about 100 zl / day.
And when we're talking about drivers - we've got some specific drivers also :)
As the worst drivers such people are considered:
1. Old men in hats ;)
2. Blondies
3. Young men (crazy fast)

seb1 - Pon Lis 21, 2005 14:35

tobi,

100zl= ??$CAD

of course by next year the price will change but at least I'm will have some price range.

btw how's the weather in Gliwice?
today we got +8C, but tomorrow that's changing to Snow!
oh well winter is back!

ciao

Tobi - Pon Lis 21, 2005 16:39

You asked about the weather? Snow, snow and more snow :) But still above zero so snow is slowly changing into water ;) But it seems to be colder and colder day by day.
1 CAD = 2,8 zl, price is rather stable, the same stakes was 5 years ago when I was renting a car.

seb1 - Pon Lis 21, 2005 18:00

thanx,

but snow in Poland, is nothing comparing to snow here in Montreal(MTL)
every winter we got something like 2-3 snowstorms, which brings something 40-50 cm of snow. then is the cold.
-30C without wind= is ok!
-30+ wind= u must be nuts to go out there! :przestraszony:

Winters are cold, and summers are humid! i will do some pic of then winter here.
it would be nice contribution to winter galery, hehehe

And we still have to drive. thanx God my seats are heated, if not my butt would glued to them!

okie 100zl/day for renting a car is it ok, or xpensive?
what is the average earnings right now?

ciao

Tobi - Wto Lis 22, 2005 09:40

If 100 zl is much/not much it depends on you earnings ;) It's very much for 'normal' employee here in Poland. There will be different opinions about average earnings but I'd say it's about 1200-1500 zl per month.
And about Canadian winter - I can imagine ;) Please make some photos, I made some today but I don't live in Gliwice but in Siemianowice Slaskie (25 km to east from Gliwice).

seb1 - Sro Lis 23, 2005 03:21

okie

images from Canada will be soon.
we just got first 5cm of snow
more to come. once it will come it will be huge. and that's not surprising.
even if you don't live in Gliwice, i don't care, jsut send it over.
hold on a sec.. i think i got some pic from last year, but that's ok, b'coz every year is the same!
same snow, same temps, same freaking wind.
let me go and look for them..

i will put them into the galery, if that's ok with the admin?

ciao

People are talktive or not. Some of them are good listeners some aren't. And when you are in the bad mood it is difficult to joy.

Me too. But many RPG systems are based on fantasy, there are dwarfs, dragons, princesses etc.
Computer games like M&M are using dragon motive, too. They are coming to us from literarature, games, music, cinema... Theirs popularity is growing.

"Jazzy" - funny word.

Bot - Nie Sty 29, 2006 20:52

Jazzy car.. a car of a jazzman :D

I do not like RPGs either :znudzony:

Tradition, culture, history - yes, this is very interesting. What are you fascinating with? Something particular? Except dragons, of course.

Aither - Nie Sty 29, 2006 22:25

Titanic, do you know sth about world of Gion? a small world called hanamachi? :) Houses of tea, where japanese spent a lot of time, they are drinking sake and green tea, listening a songs of geiko or maiko, watching when geiko is dancing, smilig, talking about everything...
I`m fascinatin with geisha life... I know almost everything... how to wear kimono, how to bind obi, sth about make-up,hairdo and kanzashi, jewellery, fans, kasa [tradicional japanise umbrella] and a lot ... :)

And about travels. Has someone of you ever been in Venezuela??
My mates gave me a proposal to visit that country. Not by bike hehe (however it might be curious experience :)
But even by plane, train, bus etc. it may be interesting journey :) But decision depends on a lot of things. I have time till about may.

It's been my dream for one week (since my pal told me abt that) hehe :oczami: . But it depends on a lot of things. 1st (the biggest issue) whether will we get vacation in the same time. 2nd - it's expensive (but i think such adventure is worth all money). 3rd also important so it'll be possible - if my honey gets vacation in the same time. Also may be some unexpected issues till that time (hopefully not). Expected date of journey is september 2006. So ... we will see :)

Titanic - Czw Lut 02, 2006 22:19

Not exactly. They have dignity, status. It's hard to call them whores. Some people could do this but not me.
But why? It's hard to say. It is similar problem to pornography. It is difficult to find parting line between art and pornography.

no I don't think it's stupid. Sometimes if you want to translate every english word to polish the translation is stupid, for instance how would you translate "hot dog" ? :)

Gliwice4ever - Pią Lip 21, 2006 09:54

I agree with trunks, sometimes it's better to have a few words known internationally and used in everyday conversations. So I take it that a lot of Polish kids curse in English!!! Man, that must be weird.

I am reluctant to mix different languages, although occasionally I do it ( I try not to). I suspect that in the case raised by Admike it might be a result of young impressionable people being influenced by the the ever increasing stream of business and cultural products arriving in Poland from English speaking countries. The worst example that I came across was in a butcher shop where they were selling (sic) 'drumstiki'... :zdegustowany:
szyja - Sob Sie 19, 2006 01:55

Hi! So i have decided to write something here. Now in iceland and i have been using english since june 29th almost all the time. i'm here just for holidays. I live at one old man's house, i help him to keep the flat clean and so on like cleaning car, shopping etc. he emloys lots of polish guys to work on constructions here in iceland. they cannot speak english so i often translate conversations between them and this old man. so i speak here quite a lot polish. but it is so funny when i speak polish to one guy and suddenly i start to speak english or i put some english words in the sentences :) you know, when i was watching tv with one guy i wanted to comment one episode of 'beverly hils 90210' (here it is broadcasted) and i started to speak english. it is so funny because i cannot control it when i speak polish or english (but sometimes). and it is opposite sometimes: i put some polish words inside english sentences (when i speak english to icelandic people). but i think it will be so cool when i'm home in two weeks time.
Have you ever been abroad for such a long time and did it have any influence on you polish? :) you know, i'm almost 16 and it is very hard for me to be alone for such a long time (2 months) and so far away home. but i'm doing my best, i am a bit shy but i try to be more confi. Only 10 days more and i am home!!!! :)

Zbyszek - Pon Sie 21, 2006 13:57

Don't worry Szyja you are doing just fine. It is quite a common phenomenon to mix languages especially when you are trying to use them at the same time...happened to me a lot and still does now and then (not a good idea because it confuses everyone but difficult to avoid - tricky business this). Interestingly, I wasn't aware that English was a language commonly spoken in Island, but then again it is the most popular language in the world... I wish you all the best in your endevours, try watching some silly TV programs in English, it often help as the picture provides a context to the conversation.
szyja - Pon Sie 21, 2006 20:42

In Iceland there live only 300,000 people and they speak Icelandic so it would be crazy if English wasn't so common here. Icelandic is a language which is spoken by such a little amount of people...
It is very good here that in TV there are subtitles everywhere, even in commercials. The only programms where there aren't any subtitles (I'm thinking about foreign programms) are for childres (dubbing) and those broadcasted directly at the sime time. So you can watch TV even if you can't speak Icelandic :) and this is a good way to learn Icelandic a bit because you can try to read the subtitles. That's why I know some words and their meanings, but I don't know how to pronounce them :) I can only write...

I heard some sentence in TV, some old man said that during 2nd world war learned german since if you want to win a war you have to know the language of your enemy better than your own.

I'd say the same about our business partners' languages. Unfortunately many people cannot understand that. They think that polish is the most important since we are polish. Yes it is important, but also important is to know a language of your friends and enemies.

"Użycie kamienia wapiennego dodawanego do komory paleniskowej w kotłach fluidalnych w celu związania siarki.."..i dalej nie wiem o co chodziło autorowi wypowiedzi...ale chyba o to, ze "popiół powstały po spaleniu musi byc usuwany ze złoża, ponieważ jest samotwardniejący"...tak dokładnie nie znam tych procesów niestety, studia były dawno :P

Try using google for help :)

h t t p;//w w w bryk, p l/teksty/liceum/pozosta%C5%82e/ekologia/19428-energetyka_problem_odsiarczania_spalin.html

Especially something here:

Cytat:

Czarnulka - Sro Kwi 21, 2010 13:33

Thank you!!
trunks - Sro Kwi 21, 2010 22:28

it's not the same process that khaman quoted...

Czarnulka - Czw Kwi 22, 2010 09:29

So how to deal with it? :(
trunks - Czw Kwi 22, 2010 22:09

I also have no idea about this process - it is black magic ;)

trunks - Pią Kwi 23, 2010 22:24

hmm reading this sentence again and again I'm starting to figure it out...

"Dozowanie kamienia wapiennego do komory paleniskowej kotłów fluidalnych w celu związania siarki powoduje, że w powstającym popiele pojawiają sie nieprzereagowane części stałe sorbentu wapiennego, które muszą być usunięte, aby produkt końcowy mógł być efektywnie wykorzystany"
